For 25 years Rich held the position as Attorney of Record, Associate General Counsel & General Attorney – General Litigation, for the Consolidated Edison Company of NY, Inc.


​In this capacity Rich was responsible for all personal injury, property damage litigation, and incident investigations for a $42.0 billion electric, gas, and steam utility with $12.0 billion in annual revenues serving more than 9.0 million New Yorkers in New York City and Westchester County (3.2 million customers) and Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., a regulated electric and gas utility serving customers in a 1,350 square mile area in southeastern New York State and parts of northern New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania.  Con Edison is one of the largest investor owner utilities in the nation. Rich supervised a staff of 110 (25 trial attorneys and 85 claim professionals) defending an annual case load of 3,000 pending personal injury and property damage suits, 21,000 pending asbestos personal injury suits, municipal public improvement utility interference matters, other complex litigation, 2,000 annual personal injury and property damage claims, all credit and collection customer billing activity, insurance-related matters, environmental and NYC permit violations, including approximately 25 personal injury appeals annually.


​In 2013, Rich left Con Edison and is practicing law in New York as Richard W. Babinecz, PLLC. Rich has continued to represent Con Edison in certain litigation. He represents other clients in commercial litigation, insurance coverage matters, utility property damage collection matters, and contract disputes. He is also counsel on several estates and probate matters.
